TSHIP(Targeted States High Impact Project) works with the governments of Bauchi and Sokoto(sometimes Abuja) States at all levels to bring public health care service quality and use up to minimum standards.

Job: Qualitative Research Specialist (Vitamin A)

Responsibilities:
• Pretest existing English and Hausa-language key informant interviews guide and modify as necessary
• Moderate in-depth interviews (IDIs) with research assistants according to the study IDI guides
• Interview key informants using the key informant questionnaire.
• Maintain notes on key informant and transcripts from the tape-recorders.
• Debrief sessions immediately after the key informant interviews with TSHIP research team responsible for the state.
• Supervise research assistant for all qualitative data collection.
• Provide periodic feedback and timely communications/updates via phone with TSHIP Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Senior Operations Research Advisor, and Senior Maternal and Child Health Advisor throughout assignment period.
• Travel to various parts of the selected state to conduct in-depth interviews with key informants to gain insight into VAS delivery and processes.
• Transcribe all the interviews as gathered in the audio tape and note taking
Deliverables:
• Develop a draft report in an agreed-upon format detailing the responses gathered during the research.
• Develop a full and final written report in an agreed-upon format detailing the responses gathered during the research.
• Deliver all audio recordings and/or transcripts to Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Senior Operations Research Advisor, and Senior Maternal and Child Health Advisor.

Required Qualifications:
• Graduate degree from a recognized institution relating to public health, international health, epidemiology, or other related field with a minimum of a Bachelor’s level degree
• Minimum 3 years relevant work experience in the development sector, MNCH/FP/RH programs evaluation preferred. Also should have direct experience with working with rural communities.
• 3-5 years experience conducting qualitative research, preferably moderating focus groups and performing in-depth interviews.
• Experience analyzing and synthesizing qualitative data using qualitative software 
• Experience in training individuals to carry out qualitative research methods
• Experience working with individuals from various cultures, backgrounds, religious beliefs, sexual orientations, ethnic groups and various education levels
• Should possess excellent organizational and analytical skills
• Fluency in Hausa and English required
• Availability to spend up to 3 weeks at one time to conduct fieldwork/data collection.
• Experience in transcribing information from tape-recorders
• Experience in writing reports using qualitative data.
