Institute of Technology & Management (ITM) has been established by the Cross River State Government (CRSG) of Nigeria in partnership with Highbury College Portsmouth, UK as part of a unique, transformational state wide Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Ecosystem project. CRSG has appointed Highbury to manage ITM to world-class standards.

The vision is to develop a world-class entrepreneurial polytechnic institute, the first of its kind in Nigeria. Job Title: Librarian

Job Location: Cross River State, Nigeria

The Librarian is responsible for providing high quality organisation of Library operations and services cross-Institute to enable the Institute to meet the corporate objectives. Team working and communications within an overall approach that values people will be of key importance.

Main Duties:

  • Direct, supervise and motivate Library staff to deliver a high quality Library service cross-Institute.
  • Develop, maintain and promote Library resources, including e-Resources, to students and staff across the Institute.
  • Organise all aspects of library work including the day to day operations of the Institute library. This includes evening duty, cover for all sites and the potential for evening work.
  • Support student success through organising the Library team to deliver a programme of research and study skills, and information regarding the library.
  • Responsible for staffing across the library including interviewing new staff completing performance reviews, developing staff skills and dealing with staffing issues.
  • Organise Library and e-Resource Advisors to work with the institute Virtual Library and develop the library website.
  • To promote a Library atmosphere conducive to study, research and reading.

Essential Criteria:
  • Honours Degree (or higher level e.g. Masters) in Library Management.
  • IT qualification.
  • Evidence of commitment to self-development.
  • Experience of day to day management of a library service.
  • Experience of undertaking line management responsibilities and supervising staff.
  • Experience of supporting and developing electronic resources.
  • Experience of supporting IT hardware and software within a
  • Library/Learning Resources Centre.
  • Experience of developing a collection relevant to curriculum needs.
  • Excellent budget management skills.
  • Ability to lead and supervise a team.
  • Understanding of safeguarding in the context of education.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work on own initiative with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to meet targets within agreed timescales.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Enthusiasm and optimism.
  • Commitment to excellence.
  • Flexible attitude in the way he/she performs the job.
