Content and methodology of supervision
As part of the UN Women JPO programme overall framework, the JPO will benefit from the following supervision modalities:
- Structured guidance provided by the supervisor, especially in the beginning of the assignment, with the purpose of gradually increasing the responsibilities of the JPO
- Establishment of a work plan, with clear key results
- Effective supervision through knowledge sharing and performance/development feedback throughout the assignment
- Easy access to the supervisor
- Participation in Unit/Team/Office meetings to ensure integration and operational effectiveness
- Guidance and advice in relation to learning and training opportunities within the field of expertise
- Completion of the yearly UN Women Results and Competency Assessment (RCA)
- If more than one supervisor; clear agreement of the roles and responsibilities between the relevant parties
Duties, Responsibilities and Output expectations
- Under the supervision of the Director / Deputy Director, the incumbent will perform the following functions:
- Supports the directorate in its UN inter-agency work through coordination, collaboration, data collection, analysis, research, and report writing (High Committee Level on Management (e.g. HCLM), Joint Inspection Unit JIU, Executive Board, etc.);
- Supports the Deputy Director in reviewing, mapping, and revising business processes leading to increased levels of efficiency and effectiveness;
- Assist the directorate in draft reports, answering surveys and questionnaires required by the UN and member states;
- Designs, proposes, implements, analyses, and operates the Division’s management reporting including periodic delivery of defined operational reports.
- Carries out data gathering, reporting and analysis (including budget) to facilitate management decision making;
- Prepares presentations and documents for management;
- Prepares briefing notes and coordinates contributions of the DMA to corporate initiatives and documents;
- Ensures efficient client-oriented communications through inter alia, the DMA Intranet site/ SharePoint etc.;
- Sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice;
- Organize special briefings for the Director and Deputy Director;
- Participate in the preparation and detailed processing of substantive input/background materials required for the Director and Deputy Director;
- Respond to relevant substantive correspondence;
- Prepare aide memoires, memoranda and other substantive documents of a broad and complex nature, in coordination with other sections;
- Perform other duties as required;
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Master's Degree (ideally an MBA) or equivalent Advanced Degree in a related field of expertise
- Work Experience: A minimum of two years of relevant work experience in management, administration or operations.
- Age: Must not be more than 32 years on the date of application
- Language skill: Fluency in English language and ability to speak any UNDP official language is an added advantage.
- Information Technology skills, including word processing, database application (excel) presentation software (power point) and internet appreciation.
- An interest in adapting to varied physical environments; and a desire to work with people with different language, national and cultural backgrounds;
- Evidence of ability to think strategically, work independently and demonstrate a sense of self-assuredness.

- Participation in a two-week long UNDP Programme Policy and Operations Induction Course in New York within the first 3 to 6 months of assignment
- Use of yearly JPO duty-related travel and training allocation (DTTA), as per the online DTTA guide
- Other training and learning opportunities, as available in UN Women
